OnePlus already confirmed that the OnePlus 5T will have a headphone jack but now CEO Pete Lau discussed the company’s choice in more detail. We think the key takeaway is this: “Sometimes, industry trends go against our core beliefs.”
It’s good to see a company take a stand against user-unfriendly, fashion-driven choices. But OnePlus didn’t make this choice lightly. It queried its users’ preferences and considered the effects on sound quality.
While aptX is supported (by the 3T and 5), the team still believes that wired audio offers the superior quality. Especially if you’re shopping on a budget – and OnePlus users certainly care about value for money.
Interestingly, the company pondered putting a second USB-C port on the phone. It would have enabled slimmer phones, but ultimately OnePlus decided that the second port will not be worthwhile.

PS. We do hope the team would reconsider two USB-C ports. Those PC-modes by Samsung and Huawei would work even better if one port handles Video out and another is used for accessories.
